Life imprisonment for 5 people for stripping a young man and a girl of their clothes and beating them in Pakistan

A Pakistani court on Friday sentenced five people to life imprisonment for stripping a young man and a girl and beating them for being unaccompanied by a third party in a guest house.

Muhammad Hamza Shafqat, an administrative official in Islamabad, told dpa that the suspect, Osman Mirza and four others, had been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Mirza and the other four broke into a room in a guest house used by a young man and a girl, and taunted them for being unaccompanied together.

The five drew weapons in the face of the two, and forced them to remove their clothes, then took pictures of them, and assaulted them.

The case witnessed many ups and downs during the court proceedings, as the young man and the girl, who were believed to have been threatened, said that they did not want to continue the case.

The young man and the girl relinquished the case, but Prime Minister Imran Khan directed the authorities to pursue the case on behalf of the state.

"Anyone who harasss and strips a woman should face the full force of the law in the presence of a conclusive video and criminal evidence," said Malika Bukhari, Parliament's Law and Justice Secretary.
