Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has recently addressed a number of parliaments around the world.

Each number is specially written to be adapted to the country in question.

Each speech is also emotional, but at the same time encouraging.

The aim is to create support for Ukraine's defense against the Russian invasion.

It also marked the speech before the Swedish parliament, a speech that was held exactly one month after the start of Russia's invasion.

President Zelensky, who is a skilled speaker, began by pointing out the similarities between Sweden and Ukraine.

It is no coincidence, he said, that both the flag of Sweden and Ukraine is yellow and blue, and meant that it stands for freedom, justice and the equal value of all people.

He also thanked Sweden for all the help, not least the military support, but at the same time demanded tougher sanctions against Russia and that Ukraine's application for EU membership be processed quickly.

Skyr no means

However, the underlying message of the speech was clear;

this war is not just about Ukraine, it is about the right of all free and democratic states to self-determination.

If Russia succeeds with its intention in Ukraine, it will be the turn of other countries in the immediate area, perhaps also Sweden.

President Zelensky spoke in his speech about Russian propaganda in which Russia occupies Gotland.

This is also of great importance for how Russia's actions affect Swedish security policy.

The large-scale attack on Ukraine shows that the Russian leadership does not spare any means to achieve its political goals.

A regular invasion of European country, indiscriminate bombing of schools, hospitals and civilian infrastructure, all this creates significant concern and uncertainty not only in Sweden but in all countries in Russia's immediate area.

For the Swedish part, it has already had significant consequences: arms deliveries to Ukraine, broad agreement in the Riksdag on a major overhaul of the Armed Forces and an intense debate on what role Sweden should play in the NATO defense alliance.

Met by standing ovations

In his speech to the Riksdag, President Zelensky did not only talk about the horrors of the war and the devastation of Ukraine.

He also tried to look ahead to the day peace is restored.

Here he invited Sweden, Swedish companies and architects, to participate in the reconstruction of the country, the reconstruction of destroyed cities and buildings.

President Zelenskyj's speech to the Riksdag was met with standing ovations.

After the speech, both the government and the opposition promised that support for Ukraine will continue.

Foreign Minister Ann Linde does not rule out more arms deliveries and the moderate leader Ulf Kristersson believes that Sweden must be prepared to do more.

Other party leaders express similar views.

There is thus broad political support for continuing to assist Ukraine with various types of support in the defense war against Russia.
