Postnord has made a legal analysis of how EU sanctions affect them, as providers of postal services within the framework of the World Postal Union.

- We have then come to the conclusion that at present we can not convey mail to and from Russia and Belarus without being completely sure that we follow the sanctions, says Henrik Ishihara.

Screening system in progress

The stop will take effect from today, March 24.

This will remain until Postnord introduces a screening system, which the company is currently working on.

It must be able to effectively prevent breaches of sanctions.

- With it, we can read the letter's address and recipient and compare with names on the sanction list and in this way prevent a shipment of value from reaching these recipients.

Will be returned

What to do if, for example, you want to send mail to relatives in Russia?

- If you want to send from Sweden, it is not possible right now.

It is an effect of prevailing circumstances, and something we regret.

But we hope that there is an understanding that it currently means problems, says Henrik Ishihara.

Mail items addressed to Russia and Belarus will be returned to their respective senders.
