North Korea announced yesterday (24th) that the intercontinental ballistic missile and ICBM-class missile launched from Pyongyang in the afternoon is the Hwasong 17.

The Korean Central News Agency reported that Kim Jong-un ordered the test launch of the Hwasong 17 yesterday and visited the launch site and guided the entire test process.

The Korean Central News Agency claimed that "Yesterday, the projectile ascended to the maximum peak altitude of 6,258.5 km and flew 1,090 km for 4,052 s (seconds)" and landed accurately in the planned waters on the high seas.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said yesterday that it had detected an intercontinental ballistic missile launched from the Sunan area of Pyongyang into the East Sea, and said, "It has been detected at a flight distance of about 1080 km and an altitude of more than 6200 km."

The speed of the projectile is known to be estimated at Mach 20.

It is known that North Korea conducted a performance test on the 27th of last month and the 5th of this month by firing only one stage of the Hwasong 17.

Later, on the 16th, the same aircraft was launched, but failed.

Because of this, there were many observations that a relaunch would be made in the near future to make up for the mistake.

North Korea declared a moratorium on the cessation of nuclear tests and ICBM-class missile launches in April 2018 ahead of negotiations on denuclearization between the U.S. and North Korea, but this launch broke its promises at the time.

North Korea held a meeting of the Politburo on January 20, suggesting the possibility of withdrawing the moratorium, and then forced an ICBM-class launch two months afterward.
