The Bordeaux prosecutor's office announced on Thursday the indictment of three people as part of a vast investigation into a possible horse doping system in the world of horse racing.
Five others will also be added shortly.
They are accused of alleged acts of "equine doping", "organized gang scam", "participation in a criminal association" and "illegal exercise of the veterinary profession", explained Frédérique Porterie, the public prosecutor.

Placed under judicial control, they are prohibited from attending racetracks and from carrying out any activity related to racehorses.
These indictments follow the arrest on Tuesday of more than 20 people – “mainly racehorse trainers (gallop and trot), veterinarians and pharmacists” – in seven French regions as well as in Spain (one person) and in Italy (one person).
A dozen races where doped horses would have won a prize
Some 80 police officers took part in the dragnet, as well as “Basque police personnel” in Spain and “Bologna carabinieri” in Italy, according to the same source.
“Banned pharmaceuticals” have been discovered.
According to the prosecution, the case began in June 2020 after the report of packages delivered to a stable at the La Teste-de-Buch racecourse in Gironde and likely to contain doping pharmaceutical products.
These products came from Spain, according to a police source.
The investigation allowed "the identification of several organized sectors, which imported, distributed and made use of regulated or prohibited pharmaceutical products in order to improve the performance of equines during races", according to the Bordeaux prosecutor's office.
According to a police source, who assures us that this is the "biggest" case of this type in France with "30 points of interest", the investigators have so far listed a dozen races where doped horses would have won a prize and doping products also came from Italy.
In December, a wide net had already taken place in this horse racing community as part of a judicial investigation opened in September in Aix-en-Provence.
A dozen horses had been seized and six people indicted.
