BEIJING, March 24 (Xinhua) -- British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called on the world to stop Russia from using its gold reserves on the 24th local time, Reuters and Agence France-Presse reported.

He said Britain and its Western allies would look into more measures to prevent Russian President Vladimir Putin from using its gold reserves to increase economic pressure on Russia.

"We need to do more, so we need to do more economically," Johnson reportedly said ahead of the NATO summit.

He added, "For example, can we do more to prevent him (Putin) from using gold reserves, besides cash reserves?"

In addition to increasing military support for Ukraine, "we have to go further economically," Johnson said.

He also said that the greater the pressure on Russia, especially in terms of gold, the sooner Russia's special military operation against Ukraine can be ended.

Previously, the United States and other Western countries imposed multiple rounds of financial sanctions on Russia.

On the 13th local time, Russian Finance Minister Siluanov said that Russia's gold and foreign exchange reserves are about 640 billion US dollars, of which 300 billion US dollars are frozen and cannot be used.
