A 47-year-old man residing in Cavaillon was arrested and then placed in police custody on Tuesday.

He is suspected of having threatened with death, on social networks, the mayor (DVD) of Cheval-Blanc (Vaucluse), Christian Mounier, reports

The forty-year-old had started to make defamatory remarks against the city councilor two months ago.

According to

Le Dauphiné Libéré

, the elected official had filed a complaint for these facts.

The suspect had been summoned by the police but did not show up.

“Persecuted by the mayor”

Last week, the defamatory remarks turned into death threats.

A new complaint was therefore filed.

During his hearing, the Cavaillonnais would have assured to feel "persecuted by the mayor" but without saying more.

The man, who would suffer from psychotic and psychological disorders, was interned at the end of his police custody at the specialized hospital center of Montfavet.
