American researchers have developed a pill that blocks sperm production in men.

For the moment, only tests on mice have been carried out, but tests on men should be authorized on men before the end of the year, before a commercialization envisaged within five years.

Will a pill for men soon see the light of day?

American researchers have developed a pill that is 99% effective on... mice.

And without side effects.

To sum up, this pill for men blocks the production of sperm unlike the female pill.

There is no action on hormones.

In detail, the researchers targeted a protein: the Alpha retinoic acid receptor.

Thanks to this receptor, sperm cells develop in the male body.

The male pill aims to block the action of this gene on fertility.

Commercialization envisaged in 5 years

After 4 weeks of treatment, scientists observed a drastic drop in sperm production in male mice.

There were no side effects noted and the pill showed 99% effectiveness against pregnancy.

But let men be reassured: the sterilization effect is not definitive.

6 weeks after stopping the pill, the mice were again able to procreate.
