Nine months after his cardiac arrest in the middle of the Euro which required the implantation of a cardiac regulator, Eriksen was called up last week for the friendly matches against the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Saturday and against Serbia in Copenhagen on Tuesday.

But a positive coronavirus test compromised his return.

"The most likely is that he starts on the bench against the Netherlands, and then we will see how it goes in Amsterdam. But he is 100% available to play at home" against Serbia, said Kasper Hjulmand during a press conference with the Danish media.

Eriksen, who now plays for Brentford in the Premier League, will join the Danish selection currently gathered in Spain on Wednesday evening, and will be able to train on Thursday, the federation confirmed to AFP.

“We just have to take stock of what he was able to do with Brentford, where he was able to start training again on Sunday. Before that he had missed training for four days. So we will see what he has been able to do," said Hjulmand.

The 30-year-old Dane has been living with an internal defibrillator since his heart attack on June 12 against Finland at the Euro.

He remained motionless on the lawn for long minutes under the dumbfounded eyes of his teammates, the stadium and millions of viewers, before finally coming to after an emergency rescue.

Eriksen (109 caps, 36 goals) should find a Danish team which had shone at the Euro (elimination in the semi-finals) and brilliantly qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar at the end of the year.
