The expert in the social care sector at the Community Development Authority in Dubai, psychiatrist Dr. Hussein Al Masih, confirmed that the delay in seeking psychological support, as a result of families denying the presence of an addict among their members, is one of the main reasons that hinder the success of psychological rehabilitation processes for addicts, because it deprives them of access to Sources of support in a timely manner, especially in the event of the abuse of certain substances that require accurate and rapid therapeutic intervention.

Christ identified to "Emirates Today" the main problems that hinder the possibility of winning the challenge in the face of addiction and rehabilitating the addict to return him to a normal life, explaining that "the family's fear of recognizing the presence of the addict and the lack of understanding that he is a sick person who needs treatment, causes the loss of a large number of patients. Addicts have their chances of survival and obtaining support, which leads them to continue the addiction for many years, in which their health and psychological problems are complicated.”

He said that not receiving support in the required time means continuing the addiction, which in turn destroys the individual's physical and mental capabilities, and carries him away from the path of recovery.

Christ pointed out another challenge that results from not dealing with the problem of the addict by implementing a comprehensive plan that takes into account all the other conditions of his life, which facilitates the process of treatment and rehabilitation, most notably the lack of his financial capabilities, as it can prevent him from continuing treatment.

Christ gave, for example, the failure of a number of addicts from psychological rehabilitation sessions due to their inability to provide the cost of transportation, as they stopped attending the "Awnak Social Rehabilitation Center", which is affiliated with the authority.

He explained that the specialists in the center are trying to fill all the logistical and life gaps that could prevent addicts from attending the center.

He pointed out that there are other medical conditions and family problems inside the home, which "could constitute a heavy burden and responsibility for the addict," considering it "one of the most important challenges facing therapists during the implementation of psychological rehabilitation programs for drug addicts."

Al-Masih touched on a major obstacle related to the lack of understanding of the cases of the addict’s relapse, which is an important part of the rehabilitation stages, stressing the need to deal with cases of relapse and return to addiction as a stage during which the addict must be supported and understood, so that he can refuse addiction again.

He said that the process of psychological rehabilitation requires patience, as it is going through difficult and complex stages that require awareness and dedication from those concerned with the treatment plan.

It is noteworthy that the "Awnak Social Rehabilitation Center" organizes treatment trips for its affiliates with the aim of providing them with skills to adapt and adapt with others in healthy external environments, and enhance their confidence in their abilities to integrate into society.

Therapeutic trips are an important part of the rehabilitation and integration programs of the recovered in society, as they help create positive and appropriate health conditions that highlight their abilities and skills to participate and integrate within the various life circumstances, and help them strengthen communication skills, participation and responsibility with others.
