It has been confirmed that a mariner who tried to enter Ukraine after leaving the place of work without permission is currently sitting at the border checkpoint between Poland and Ukraine.

Our authorities are focused on securing new recruits for marines.

I am a correspondent for Rodong-gyu in Poland.

<Reporter> This

is a border checkpoint in Hrevennene, a city on the border with Ukraine in southeastern Poland.

Officials from the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Intelligence Service gather to talk with serious expressions.

We are discussing the issue of recruiting Marines who arrived in Poland this morning (22nd) local time after refusing to return to vacation and departing for Poland the day before.

The Marines, who left their duty station and came to Poland, tried to enter Ukraine through the Hrevennene border checkpoint in the morning, but failed to enter the country until the sun went down.

This mariner used his passport to cross the Polish border checkpoint, but was denied entry at the Ukrainian checkpoint at the request of our diplomatic authorities.

[Polish Border Guard: (I know that there are Koreans in the checkpoint, do you think they will come out again?) I can’t tell you about that.]

Marines are currently staying at the checkpoint on the Polish side after being provided with food and a place to stay. It is said that he refused to persuade a foreign ministry official to come out.

In fact, there is a state of siege, and it is known that a Polish border official only told our diplomatic officials that "the procedure is in progress".

This marine is charged with desertion as an active duty soldier and violating the passport law.

If the marines do not come out of the checkpoint on their own, our authorities plan to secure new recruits through legal cooperation with the Polish authorities.
