In order for children and young people to have an easier transition to the Swedish school system, Start Stockholm maps their school knowledge.

In connection with the influx of refugees from Ukraine, they are also given an extended assignment to place children in preschool.

- It is to make it easier for the families who come, because it will mostly be mothers with their children because the fathers are still in Ukraine, says Liz Berg, unit manager at Start Stockholm.

Can start new schools

A challenge for the city is believed to be the number of children and young people who will now get a place.

An intense period that is expected to extend into the summer.

In the coming weeks, the city will create places for 550 pre-school, primary and secondary school students.

- I feel confident that we will manage this in a good way.

We can start almost new school units to meet a possible need.

We have not set any distant limit, but we must meet the challenge that comes and adapt our organization accordingly, says Lee Orberson, elementary school director and school principal in the city of Stockholm.
