This Monday evening, a person died in the fire of a 12-storey apartment building in Aulnay-sous-Bois in Seine-Saint-Denis, local authorities reported on Tuesday.
The victim, a tenant born in 1981, was discovered in cardio-respiratory arrest on the 10th floor landing after inhaling toxic fumes from the fire, which broke out in the common areas between the 7th and 10th floors between 22 o'clock and 11 p.m.
Despite cardiac massage, the man could not be revived.
Three other people were slightly injured.
The evacuees were able to return to their homes
Hundreds of people were evacuated while firefighters arrived.
All the inhabitants were able to return to their accommodation around 5 a.m., the town hall of Aulnay-sous-Bois reported in a press release.
The fire would have started from a column of gas which supplied the building.
It was not immediately known whether the incident was accidental or criminal in origin, said the Bobigny prosecutor's office.
