The difficulty with the type of attacks that took place yesterday is that there is usually no warning and that it is not possible to stop the staff during an ongoing incident.

This is what Göran Holmgren says, who in his role as municipal police works with the city of Malmö on preventive work.

Can not act wrong

- It is not possible to protect yourself 100 percent against this type of event.

Instead, you have to create a mindset that allows you to act when it happens, he says and continues:

- It is not possible to act incorrectly in these situations because there is no conclusion.

The most important thing is that you do not freeze without acting.

How do you judge that the action was during yesterday's attack?

- It is far too early to say.

The school will certainly evaluate the event internally and then, together with the school, see what we can take with us and learn from this tragic event.

Within the police, there is always an internal evaluation in the event of serious incidents so that we can learn and develop the business, says Göran Holmgren.

Held trainings since 2015

Göran Holmgren has held training at schools in Malmö on how school management and school staff should act in events such as the one at Malmö Latin School since 2015. The training began after the school attack in Trollhättan where two people fell victim and the perpetrator died.

- We have two types of education, one a little longer that is aimed at principals and one that is aimed at school staff.

It differs a bit about how to think in the different roles when something like this happens, he says

New model is being developed

The training takes place according to an American model, but a new model more adapted to Swedish conditions is under development and will be completed during the year.

The new model is being developed by the police and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, MSB.

The training takes place through cooperation between the municipality and the police.

The City of Malmö has also hired a private company that trains internally on security issues and so-called "ongoing lethal violence", similar to what happened at Malmö Latin School yesterday.

Daniel Bergfjord, head of security for the upper secondary schools in Malmö, states that the municipality is now working on compiling a list of what measures will be taken in the future, but that it is not ready yet.
