Germany refuses to boycott Russia's oil and gas

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has once again rejected calls for a boycott of Russian energy supplies in the wake of Russia's military operation in Ukraine.

"The sanctions that have already been imposed on Russia are really hurting its economy and it will become more dramatic as the days go by," said Schulz, noting that "sanctions are designed to be bearable for those who impose them, including in the long term... That is why the position of Germany on this issue (regarding the boycott of Russian energy supplies) has not changed."

He also mentioned that other countries in Europe depend more on oil, coal and gas from Russia than Germany, noting that "Germany is working to diversify its energy supplies, and although this will take time, it will eventually have the same effect as the boycott."
