According to reports, Marquis said there was no damage from the earthquakes, most of which occurred along the fissures of the Manadas volcano.
CIVISA has yet to determine what the quakes mean, but the agency has sent teams to the area and set up more earthquake monitoring stations on the island.
The majority of the population of Saint-Jorge lives in the city of Velas.
Local officials said that as a precaution, a document was signed on the 21st to activate the earthquake-related emergency plan.
The island of Saint-Zorge is one of the nine islands that make up the Azores, with a population of about 8,400, the report said.
