New cross-border police collaboration.

The Police have arrested in Castelló d'Empúries (Girona) a fugitive who was hiding under a false identity, wanted for participating in the kidnapping and torture of a French citizen in 2018. A Court of the Paris County Court issued a European Arrest and Delivery Order and through information between countries it was found that the suspect could be in this town on the Catalan coast.

The agents set up a surveillance and control device since the suspect lived with a false identity and could be armed. In addition, it was observed that he took many counter-surveillance measures, which made the investigation difficult.

For this reason, the Police Security Special Operations Group managed to arrest him and he was transferred to the National High Court for his extradition.

He is accused of the crimes of kidnapping, illegal confinement of a hostage, belonging to an organized group and extortion.

The French authorities believe that he participated, along with other people, in December 2018 in the kidnapping of a French citizen in the town of Calvados belonging to the Normandy region.

The kidnappers pretended to be policemen, and after torturing the victim they demanded the payment of one million euros to free her.

One of the assailants was killed the next day in the town of Avignon.
