CNR Beijing, March 21 (Reporter Wang Yiqun) "China Sleep Research Report (2022)" was released, and "China Think Tank Report" dialogued with Wang Junxiu, director and researcher of the Social Psychology Research Center of the Institute of Sociology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences: the same "Can't sleep", what's the difference?

In recent years, research on sleep problems has attracted more and more attention, such as insufficient sleep, sleep procrastination, difficulty falling asleep and so on.

Sleep problems in different ages and groups have also sparked more and more discussions.

What is the state of sleep in our country at present?

What sleep problems do different groups have, and what are the reasons behind them?

How to improve sleep scientifically?

The average sleep time of Chinese people is 7.06 hours per day.

If the total score of sleep quality is 100 points, it can score 64.78 points.

What do these two numbers mean?

Wang Junxiu replied: "The overall sleep index is 64.78, which is just passing, especially the behavioral and psychological aspects of this kind of sleep. These scores are relatively low. The average sleep time is 7.06 hours, which is actually relatively low. According to our survey of people can infer that the overall level of sleep quality in urban populations across the country is not high."

Winter Olympic champion Gu Ailing said her "secret weapon" was "sleeping 10 hours a day".

So what are the reasons for most people who are sleep deprived?

In fact, the main culprit of lack of sleep is the mobile phone.

According to the survey, 7.98% of the respondents said that they "almost never" caused sleep delay and insomnia due to looking at mobile phones and surfing the Internet.

Of course, what affects the length of sleep, there are also the long-term work or study time that squeezes the sleep time, as well as the influence of sleep disorders such as insomnia.

Wang Junxiu said: "Playing with mobile phones is a particularly common phenomenon for almost all age groups. Mobile phones disrupt the rhythm of life, resulting in particularly serious sleep delays."

Which groups have more prominent sleep problems these days?

The report selected four specific groups for research, namely primary and secondary school students, college students, professionals and new mothers.

The report shows that study pressure is one of the main reasons affecting the sleep of primary and secondary school students.

In addition, interpersonal relationships, emotional problems, sleep environment, etc. are also the main reasons.

It has been more than half a year since the introduction of the "double reduction" policy to promote the comprehensive and healthy development of primary and secondary school students. How are the sleep conditions of primary and secondary school students now?

According to the report, about 60% of parents said that their children went to bed earlier.

But the findings don't stop there.

Wang Junxiu's interpretation: "After the implementation of the 'double reduction' policy, 61.53% of parents of primary and secondary school students said that their children went to bed earlier. About 70% of parents said that their students' sleep quality improved. But still about half Parents feel there is still no way to get an average of eight hours of sleep on weekdays and weekends."

The latest data from the Ministry of Education shows that in 2021, the total number of students in various forms of higher education in my country will reach 44.3 million.

College students face the dual competition and pressure of study and employment, and are more prone to sleep problems.

What is the average amount of sleep per day for college students?

I often hear that college students always stay up late, go to bed late and get up late, is it true?

Wang Junxiu said: "The average sleep time of college students is basically 7 hours a day. Most college students say that sleep is actually insufficient, and it is more caused by procrastination of sleep. Nearly half of them sleep after 12:00 in the morning. I just went to bed, so most people go to bed around 1am."

Health issues have become an issue of great concern in today's workplace.

Many people in the workplace report that they have a lot of work pressure, sleep late, sleep less, sleep lightly, and wake up easily.

So, if you sleep 8 hours a day as a standard, what is the proportion of working people who meet the sleep standards?

Wang Junxiu said: "The quality of sleep in the workplace is not optimistic. About 40% of people sleep 7 hours a day, less than 30% of them can reach 8 hours, and 20% of them only sleep for 6 hours. And they all went to bed relatively late, basically more than half of them slept after 11 o'clock."

Another group that deserves attention is new mothers.

New mothers, that is, adult women whose first child is 0 to 3 years old and has not yet conceived a second child.

The report shows that it is easier for new mothers to fall asleep, but the quality of sleep is average; there are fewer "whole sleep" and more sleep problems.

"Their sleep is sometimes affected by the baby's work and rest time, so the sleep is fragmented, and it is difficult to find a complete time to sleep for 8 hours." Wang Junxiu said.
