China News Service, March 21. According to the official website of Ocean University of China, Wen Shengchang, a famous physical oceanographer, a pioneer of ocean wave research in my country, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, former president of Shandong Ocean University, and professor of Ocean University of China, was treated due to illness. Invalid, passed away in Qingdao at 15:37 on March 20, 2022, at the age of 101.

Wen Shengchang is a famous oceanographer and educator in my country, a pioneer of wave research in China and one of the founders of physical oceanography, and has made outstanding contributions to my country's marine science and education.

Wen Shengchang went to the United States for further studies in 1946. He is one of the earliest scientists engaged in marine scientific research in my country. He has long been devoted to wave research and physical ocean education, and has made outstanding contributions to the development and foundation of my country's physical ocean science.

He has made fruitful achievements in the fields of wave spectrum, wave direction spectrum, wave forecasting method research and wave numerical model research.

In the mid-to-late 1950s, he put forward the famous thesis of "universal wind and wave spectrum and its application", which is known as "Wen's wind and wave spectrum"; later, he put forward the theory of "surge wave spectrum" in swell research. .

The Principles of Ocean Waves and Principles of Ocean Waves and Computational Principles written by him have become important monographs to guide the research of ocean wave theory at home and abroad, and have won the reputation of "two of the world's five largest wave monographs".
