The driver of a van intercepted by customs officers near Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales) was the subject of an immediate appearance before the court on Friday.
He was arrested on Tuesday on the departmental D900 at the wheel of a vehicle registered in Romania.
Officers inspected the shipment, which they considered suspicious, and found 112 kg of herbal cannabis inside.
An imaginary repair
The drug was hidden in two generators, which the respondent had claimed to be transporting between Spain and Germany for repair, indicates France 3 Occitanie.
The cannabis had been packaged in heat-sealed bags placed inside the two devices.
Its market value was estimated at 195,575 euros.
Since the beginning of the year, the police have seized 1.8 tons of cannabis as well as 30 kg of heroin and cocaine in Perpignan.
The driver of the van was given a two-year suspended prison sentence.
He will also have to pay a customs fine of 196,350 euros.
