The president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has received the support of the affiliates in the primary day that was held this Monday at the party's headquarters throughout Spain.

Specifically, with 36,781 votes, 99.63% of the valid votes cast, he becomes "the most voted candidate in history for the national presidency of the Popular Party", as reported by the president of the Organizing Committee, Esteban González Pons.

A total of 41,681 PP members who had registered to participate in the party's primaries, who today held assemblies in venues throughout Spain with two ballot boxes: one to elect the only candidate to lead the formation and who has already formalized his candidacy with 55,580 guarantees;

and another for the election of the delegates who will go to the extraordinary congress in Seville, which will be held on April 1 and 2.

González Pons has specified that with an updated census of 41,991 registered, a total of 36,974 members, 88.05% of them, have turned out to vote.

"With 36,781 votes, 99.63% of the valid votes cast, and in the absence of incorporating the votes of the PP abroad, Alberto Núñez Feijóo becomes the most voted candidate in the history of the PP for the national presidency of our formation", has emphasized.

Through a message on his official Twitter account, González Pons said he was "proud and grateful" to the thousands of members who, on a working Monday and "with rain in much of Spain", wanted to participate in "this historical process" for the PP.

"Your trust makes us stronger and shows us the path to follow," he proclaimed.

Among the affiliates who have participated in the primaries, the still president of the PP, Pablo Casado, stands out, who has exercised his right to vote at the national headquarters of the PP, in Madrid's Génova street, where the general coordinator and spokesperson of the Group have also voted Popular, Cuca Gamarra, and the president of the Organizing Committee of the extraordinary congress (COC), Esteban González Pons.

In the end, Feijóo has decided not to vote --he would have to do it himself-- to "give that media prominence to the grassroots militancy", since his intention is to focus on the people who make up the Popular Party and who are not in the structure, sources from his team have informed Europa Press.

Although it was not necessary for Feijóo to submit to this vote of the affiliates as he was the only candidate --with more than 55,000 endorsements-- and he could have gone directly to the vote of the delegates, the president of the Xunta asked that this election in first round was held anyway, as explained by the president of the Organizing Committee, Esteban González Pons.
