The new Corona virus "Covid-19" continued to record more records in the number of infections in France and Germany, while the number of daily infections without symptoms increased in Shanghai, China.

France has recorded nearly 90,000 new cases of the virus in the past seven days, which is a 36 percent increase from the previous week when the government lifted most health restrictions shortly before the presidential election.

On March 14, the government of French President Emmanuel Macron decided to lift most restrictions, based on positive indicators.

Macron is seeking to win a new presidency in elections to be held in less than three weeks, followed by legislative elections later this year.

The measures provided for the abolition of the mandatory wearing of masks in closed places, except for public transport, hospitals and other medical facilities, and France also abolished the requirement to provide evidence of obtaining the vaccine in places such as restaurants and cinemas.

New hospital admissions, which French Health Minister Olivier Veran sees as a leading indicator, fell 1.7% on a weekly basis, the slowest decline since early February, and this indicates a reversal of previous trends.

In neighboring Germany, data from the Robert Koch Institute for Infectious Diseases showed today, Monday, that the number of confirmed infections has risen to 18,772,331, after 92,314 new infections were recorded.

The data indicated that the total number of deaths rose to 126,929, after 13 new deaths were recorded.

Asymptomatic injuries

And in China, Shanghai today recorded a record increase in daily cases, with 24 new infections locally transmitted, with confirmed symptoms, and 734 local infections without symptoms.

This is the fourth consecutive day that asymptomatic local infections have increased in Shanghai.

Although the number of infections is low by global standards, Shanghai quickly followed Chinese policies, closing schools and conducting tests in apartment complexes in an attempt to limit the spread of the virus.

The city also closed the Disney Resort in Shanghai from Monday until further notice.

Record numbers

And the National Health Committee of China announced today, Monday, that the mainland, which includes Shanghai, recorded a total of 1947 of confirmed new infections that showed symptoms and were transmitted locally, compared to 1656 the previous day.

The number of asymptomatic new local infections in China reached 2,384, up from 2,177 the day before.

For its part, Hong Kong intends to ease some restrictions next month, lift the ban on flights from 9 countries, reduce the quarantine time for those coming from abroad, and reopen schools.

The measures announced by Chief Executive Carrie Lam on Monday may stem some criticism from residents who are increasingly frustrated with the draconian measures, some of which have been in place in Hong Kong for more than two years.
