Poland's government wants to take tough measures against Russia and on Monday asked the heads of all parliamentary groups for consultations.

It is about steps that would require constitutional changes in order to "confiscate the property of Russian oligarchs in Poland, all assets of private individuals who are committed to supporting Russia's actions," said government spokesman Piotr Müller.

"In particular" it is about people who are subject to EU sanctions.

The funds seized were to be "used to support all those who have been harmed by the actions of Russia."

In addition, a special tax is planned for companies that continue to operate in Russia.

Müller spoke of "international corporations" whose funds "strengthen Russia's war machine".

Another goal is, in the face of Russia's threats, "to be able to retrofit the Polish army in a flash and at the highest level".

Last week, Morawiecki announced a lavish "anti-Putin shield" intended to bolster Poland's economy against inflation, supply shortages and dependency on Russia.

On Monday, in the presence of Swiss President Ignazio Cassis, Morawiecki called on Switzerland to freeze the accounts of Russian oligarchs and confiscate their extensive assets in Switzerland.
