The alert was given around 9:30 a.m., a few minutes before the store opened its doors to the public.
A fire broke out on Monday morning in the reserve of the La Halle store in the Les Loges business area in Chantepie, south-east of Rennes.
Twenty vehicles and fifty firefighters were immediately mobilized to extinguish the fire which was brought under control at the end of the morning.
No one was injured in the disaster which completely devastated the store's 1,500 m² reserve.
Nine employees find themselves on technical unemployment.
Three other neighboring commercial cells were also impacted by the smoke, but no damage was reported.
Evacuated, the commercial area should be accessible again at the beginning of the afternoon.
