A China Eastern Airlines plane with 133 people on board crashed Monday in southwest China, public television reported, without giving a preliminary death toll.

CCTV reported that the Boeing-737 crashed near the city of Wuzhou in the Guangxi region, causing a mountain fire, indicating that ambulance teams were sent to the site.

According to local media, the plane took off on flight "MU 5735" after the first hour in the afternoon local time (05.00 GMT) from the city of Kunming (southwest) heading to Canton at a distance of about 1,300 kilometers.

The last major air accident in China dates back to August 2010 and killed 42 people.
