Prime Minister Kishida, who was visiting India, left for the next country to visit, Cambodia, on the morning of the 20th after the summit meeting with Prime Minister Modi.

At the summit meeting with Prime Minister Hun Sen, I would like to confirm the importance of cooperation among the international community over the situation in Ukraine.

Prime Minister Kishida held a summit meeting with Prime Minister Modi in India on the night of the 19th of Japan time, and unilateral changes in the status quo by force should not be allowed in any region over the situation in Ukraine. We agreed that we needed to seek a peaceful solution to the situation.



After completing a series of dates in India, Prime Minister Kishida left for his next visit, Cambodia, after 11:30 am on the 20th.



After arriving in Cambodia, Prime Minister Kishida will hold a summit meeting with Prime Minister Hun Sen, and given that Cambodia is the chair of the ASEAN-Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the international community over the situation in Ukraine I would like to confirm the importance of cooperation.



In addition, since it has been 30 years since Japan dispatched the Self-Defense Forces to Cambodia as part of the United Nations peacekeeping operations, it is expected that opinions will be exchanged regarding the regional situation and the ideal way of international contribution.

Expectations for the sustainable development of both Cambodian governments

The Cambodian government issued a statement on the 17th of this month, saying, "This visit by Prime Minister Kishida highlights the strong determination to further strengthen the wonderful relationship that the two countries already have."



Since Japan participated in UN peacekeeping operations in 1992 and dispatched the Self-Defense Forces to Cambodia, it has continued to support the recovery from the civil war and the development of the democratization process.



For this reason, the Cambodian government attaches great importance to the development of bilateral relations.



Meanwhile, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen is calling for foreign investment to maintain high economic growth, but is deepening relations with China, the largest investor.



The United States is wary that China is increasing its presence in Cambodia not only in economic cooperation but also in security, and by restricting the export of high-tech products that may be used for military purposes, Hun Sen Increasing pressure on the administration.



In addition, the United States and the EU-European Union are concerned about the human rights situation, saying that the Hun Sen administration has tightened its squeeze on conflicting forces.



For Cambodia, Japan, which continues dialogue and cooperation, is a valuable presence even as the United States and other countries become more vigilant and criticized, and it seems that Cambodia expects the sustainable development of bilateral relations.
