The man in the shadows had joined in July 1947 as a sound engineer at 22, rue Bayard, the historic radio building which he left almost 40 years later, after having been artistic director for 20 years.

"I think I did everything, even swept the studio," he told France Culture in 2011.

Roger Kreicher had notably recorded Abbé Pierre's appeal in 1954 in favor of the homeless, broadcast on the first private radio station in France.

He is behind several successful shows and radio hooks ("Quitte ou double", "Reine d'un jour", "Ploum Ploum Tralala", "Un homme, une femme"), sometimes recorded across the country under the marquee of the "Radio Circus".

"It was he who invented after the war the concept of traveling radio, which went to meet the public. The real popular radio", tells AFP Laurent Marsick, journalist at RTL.

Before the "revolution" of 1966 which saw Radio-Luxembourg become RTL, Roger Kreicher was also a journalist, carrying out "a large number of reports by plane, in America, in Africa, etc., between two broadcasts" that he produced, related -he.
