Worshipers at a mosque in Canada beat an axe-carrying attacker

Worshipers at a mosque in the Canadian city of Mississauga were able to immobilize a man who sprayed spray while brandishing an axe, in what police said was a possible hate crime.

Peel Regional Police said in a statement that a 24-year-old Mississauga resident M. Moez was arrested at the Dar al-Tawhid Islamic Center during dawn prayers, CNN reported.

The Islamic Center said in a statement on Facebook: "Before he could harm any of the worshipers, a number of them gathered and managed to stop him with courage."

The mosque's statement added that the man was armed with many other knives.
