Assaults on failures Mutilation of a vagina and theft of 'ninots' from homeless people
The monument of the
Castielfabib
-M.Sant Joan Fallas commission in Valencia, which represents the body of a naked man, has been attacked at dawn this Saturday and has suffered damage to its structure.
Specifically,
the penis of this figure
, the work of the Fallera artist Anna Ruiz Sospedra, has been cut off.
It so happens that this week another failure created by this author, also for a Valencia commission, suffered another attack in the early hours of Thursday.
In this case, it was the monument of the Lepanto-Guillén de Castro fault, a composition that represents a naked woman's body and in which her vagina was destroyed.
After knowing what happened this Saturday, Anna Ruiz has shown her surprise at this new act of vandalism and has regretted what happened.
The artist has stated, in statements to Europa Press, that it is "surprising" that events like these happen and has criticized the fact that "today sculptures are broken just for being naked", while at the same time attributing it to a
"retrograde mentality"
and has wondered "where are we going" as a society.
"That the body is still a problem, we have to look at it," said Ruiz, who has opined that this attitude responds to a "minority group" and has opted to "reinforce education with respect to the human body."
"The human body is not a shame," underlined the Fallera artist, who learned about the damage to the Castielfabib-M.Sant Joan monument in Valencia this Saturday when she was in a performance at the Lepanto-Guillem de Castro commission in charge by the artists Mireia Pérez and Maite Morell.
Ruiz has pointed out that this has been a "very powerful and significant" performance regarding what has happened.
After the attack on this commission, the Castielfabib failure indicated on its social networks that acts of vandalism like this cannot be allowed.
"Faults are works of art and must be treated as such," he explained, while giving "a lot of encouragement to friends" from Lepanto.
