The Public Prosecution, in Abu Dhabi, continued investigations into the case of the collapse of the roof of a mosque under construction in the Western Region, last Saturday evening, and ordered the formation of a tripartite committee from the Department of Experts in the Judicial Department, whose mission is to move to the place of the incident and inspect it, to explain the reason for the collapse of the mosque, and whether the implementation The erected construction was carried out in accordance with the established rules and principles or not, and a statement of the defects of these works and their role in the collapse of the roof, as well as the statement of those responsible for that, and decided the right to review all the documents that help the committee to perform its duties, while assigning it to appear before the Public Prosecution to submit documents of the incident.

The Public Prosecution had received a report stating that the roof of a mosque under construction had collapsed in the western region last Saturday evening, and when a prosecutor moved and inspected the site, it was found that the collapse resulted in the death of one of the workers and the injury of 17 others, who were transferred for treatment to Madinat Zayed Hospital, and it was also found through it That the main contractor of the project assigned the construction of the building to another contracting company, and by asking some of the victims, they decided that the building collapsed during the pouring concrete work on the ceiling of the women’s prayer hall in the mosque, in the presence of the contractor and the representative of the project consultant, which led to the occurrence of their injuries shown in the attached medical reports, and the teams also moved Ambulance, civil defense, emergency and public safety, and other concerned parties worked to evacuate people from the place and provide first aid to the injured at the scene of the accident.

In the preliminary investigations of the Public Prosecution, the Director of the Building Permits and Town Planning Department in the Municipality of “Al Gharbia” was asked about the reason for the collapse of the mosque’s roof. He stated that the main contractor assigned the project to another sub-company, and that the main reason for the collapse was that the metal scaffolding was not executed according to engineering principles. This led to its inability to bear the weight of concrete and labor, during the process of pouring concrete and its collapse.

The consultant engineer responsible for the project also decided that the collapse occurred due to a defect in the steel scaffolding, to complete the concrete pouring process, which resulted in the collapse that occurred. He also decided that the contractor did not comply with the observations made by the municipal inspector in the construction process.
