At least 70 migrants are feared dead in the Mediterranean

22 migrants have been found dead since their boats sank during probable attempts to reach the coast of Europe.

Another 47 migrants are missing.

So far this year, 215 migrants have died while traveling across the Mediterranean.

- I am appalled that life is wasted in the Mediterranean, and the lack of efforts to try to stop this tragedy, says IOM's Libyan chief Federico Soda.

Nearly 2,000 migrants drowned or were reported missing while traveling across the Mediterranean last year.

In 2020, 1,401 cases of deaths or missing were reported.
