The man who was suspected of having set fire to Gävlebocken first admitted the crime.

But during his testimony in the district court, he withdrew it.

The man then said that he did not remember anything of the incident and that he thus neither acknowledged nor denied.

His defender said in the district court that the 40-year-old should be released, even if he is convicted, so that he can continue treatment for his substance abuse problems.

This was told by SVT's reporter Arvid Jansson, who reported from the district court.

Despite this, the Court of Appeal now upholds the verdict against the man and he will have to serve a six-month prison sentence and pay damages of SEK 109,000 to Gävle municipality.
