In 1792, King Louis XVI was condemned to the scaffold while the rest of the royal family was imprisoned in the Tour du Temple.

Louis XVII, his son, was not yet 8 years old when he became King of France… A king without coronation or crown, who reigned over nothing except the confined space he occupied in prison.

Until then known for being a little boy who was always full of gentleness and attention, even in the terrible conditions in which he had been growing up since 1792, the child was deeply marked by his father's execution and changed completely.

In this new episode of the Europe 1 Studio podcast "At the heart of history", Clémentine Portier-Kaltenbach recounts the years of ordeal of Louis XVII, a child king in prison.

When Louis XVII, born Louis-Charles, second son of Louis XVI, learns of his father's death, he loses all his life force.

Gone is the little boy who treated his jailers without contempt or distrust and managed to find joy in his daily life in the prison of the Temple.

The young Louis XVII refused all food, he never left his bed, he spent his days sobbing and screaming.

But he is not yet at the end of his troubles, because the Revolutionaries intend to use him as a weapon against his mother Marie-Antoinette... In this new episode of the Europe 1 Studio podcast "At the heart of History", Clémentine Portier-Kaltenbach completes the story of the life of Louis XVII.
