It reports Danmarks Radio on Tuesday.

Every day, the Danish border police reject 10-20 refugees who do not have approved passports or want to use Denmark as a transit country to Sweden or another Nordic country.

Since last Friday, at least 250 refugees have been sent back to Germany and referred to take the ferry from Kiel if they want to Sweden.

Entry rules stop

The reason for the situation is Denmark's entry rules.

Only those who have a so-called biometric passport, provided with an electronic chip with identity information, or those who want to seek asylum in Denmark are released across the Danish border.

The rules are criticized by, among others, local politicians in the border town of Flensburg and the Radical Left.

The party wants a change in the law to make it easier for fleeing Ukrainians to get through the country.

But Foreign and Integration Minister Mattias Tesfaye (S) does not believe that refugees from Ukraine should be allowed to travel through Denmark to get to any of the other Nordic countries.

"I agree that we are in a serious situation.

And that is precisely why I believe that you should not only be able to travel through Europe without being registered and that it is documented who you are.

I also have a responsibility for Denmark's security ", says Mattias Tesfaye to Danmarks Radio.

Sweden lets in

Sweden has a different attitude towards the Ukrainian refugees.

- Those who do not have a passport or visa are handed over to the Swedish Migration Board, which is allowed to decide how to handle them.

But not many are handled this way.

When we talk to people at the border and explain the situation, it usually leads to them seeking asylum according to the Mass Refugee Directive, says Mats Berggren, head of the border police in the southern region.

Mats Berggren's area of responsibility includes Skåne, Blekinge and Kronoberg counties.

- We feel that we have decent control.

Most refugees come via Karlskrona, then Ystad and Trelleborg and via the Öresund Bridge.

At the large ferry berths, the Swedish Migration Agency is on site with us, so it will be a fairly smooth handling.

Hiding in the flow

Since March 1, approximately 9,000 refugees have entered Sweden via the southern region.

According to Mats Berggren, the main task of the border police is now to make it easier for the Swedish Migration Board and help the refugees.

- Then we will also keep our border police mission and find people who are hiding in the flow.

We have some human trafficking cases and some other crime.

In the beginning, many people came in their own cars, now many come on foot.

It is mainly women and children.

There are also a lot of others who are not Ukrainians but who have had a right of residence for protection reasons in Ukraine, he says.

At the Danish border with Germany, refugees who have a residence permit in Ukraine but are citizens of a country outside the EU are sent back to Germany.
