It was around 9 a.m. that the drama unfolded on Monday morning in this village of a thousand inhabitants.

When paramedics arrived on the scene, it was already too late.

An Audi was totally ablaze and a badly burned man lay a few meters away.

It was he who explained to the police that his two children were in the car.

The thesis of the suicide attempt to be verified

When they extinguished the fire, the firefighters could only note the presence of the bodies of the two children.

The father was taken to emergency care in serious condition.

He was hospitalized at the University Hospital Center of Lille.

An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy.

This will include verifying the trail of a voluntary act with attempted suicide of the father of the two little victims.

According to the Béthune prosecutor's office, "the first elements suggest that he set the fire with his children in the back".
