Buy an island to establish a nation there.

This is the project launched in 2018 by Americans from a crowdfunding campaign.

In its infancy, this campaign paid off, as investors gathered around the Let's Buy an Island project were able to raise more than $250,000 in December 2019, reports CNN.

A sufficient sum to buy Coffee Bay, a small island without any inhabitant with an area of ​​4.8 km² located off the coast of Belize, on the east coast of Central America.

The investors had to spend $180,000 plus tax.

The island became the principality of Islandia.

It has its own national flag, anthem and government.

Inaugurated in January 2022, Islandia has become the newest micro-nation in the world.

Even if it claims its independence, the international community does not recognize it.

3,000 euros to settle

The island is located 15 minutes by boat from Belize City.

It only takes a few minutes to walk from one end to the other of the island which stretches in length.

The founding members of Islandia have set the price of the share to settle there at 3,250 dollars, nearly 3,000 euros.

So far, nearly 100 shares have been sold.

Although it is possible to buy several shares, the buyer can only obtain one vote to take part in the decisions.

The Islandia project was inspired by other micro-nations, notably the Principality of Sealand.

Located off the coast of England, this WWII combat platform which was declared an independent nation by its new owners in 1967.
