The United Nations warns of a nuclear conflict due to the war in Ukraine

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres considered that "the possibility of a nuclear conflict in the region has become possible," stressing the need to protect nuclear sites in Ukraine.

He said, "The possibility of a nuclear conflict that was previously unimaginable has now returned to the realm of the possible. The security of nuclear sites must be preserved."

He added that the United Nations will allocate $40 million to provide humanitarian assistance to the Ukrainian people.

He added, “As millions of Ukrainians face hunger and limited access to water and medicine, I am announcing an additional $40 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund to increase life-saving assistance and reach those who need it most, and this funding will help provide water, food, medicine and aid. Other urgent needs that people need, in addition to cash assistance."

Guterres noted that "the United Nations and humanitarian partners have provided aid to more than 600,000 residents of Ukraine where the security situation has allowed," but warned that "opportunities are dwindling."

He continued, "The corridors in and out of the besieged cities are getting more dangerous every day."

Guterres called on the international community to allocate $1.7 billion to help Ukraine over the next three months.
