North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) initially has to remain in quarantine in Israel because of positive corona tests.

A second PCR test was also positive on Monday in Jerusalem, the Düsseldorf State Chancellery announced on Monday evening.

A second PCR test was also positive on Monday in Jerusalem, the Düsseldorf State Chancellery announced in the evening.

The "Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung" had previously reported on the first positive test.

Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst is following the instructions of the Israeli health authorities and will be working from isolation in the coming days.

He is still doing well," said a spokesman.

How long the quarantine would last and when Wüst would be able to test himself for a flight home was not entirely certain at first.

"We need to clarify that.

We currently know of five days," said the spokesman.

Wüst only started a four-day trip to Israel on Sunday and laid a wreath on Monday at the Israeli Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.

"I feel great"

The prime ministers' conference this Thursday is planned in digital form anyway, so that Wüst, as MPK chairman, could also take part via video link from Israel, according to people close to him.

The MPK is to advise Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) on the current corona situation, among other things.

Wüst's return trip was originally planned for Wednesday.

As the German Press Agency found out, the Prime Minister had done a PCR test before entering Israel and immediately after entering, which according to the information were both negative.

The third test then produced a positive result.

Afterwards, Wüst thanked him for “the good wishes” in a video message on Twitter and said: “I’m fine.

Everything okay.

I now have to wait for another test so that we can get clarity.”
