Asked on franceinfo to find out who he would vote for in the event of a Mélenchon / Macron second round, he replied that he "will vote for any left-wing candidate against Emmanuel Macron".

"It's extremely clear, and I obviously want Jean-Luc Mélenchon to commit to the opposite, namely that he would vote for Fabien Roussel against Emmanuel Macron", underlined Ian Brossat.

Sunday on France 3, Mr. Roussel had also assured that "of course" he would support "Mr. Mélenchon if he is in the second round", while the Communist Party has decided to present its own candidate for this presidential election, unlike 2012 and 2017 where he had joined the Insoumis.

"I do not think that the lefts are irreconcilable; the proof in the second round I will always choose the left", insisted Ian Brossat Monday.

He nevertheless said he was "fed up" with the call for a "useful vote" launched by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who turns out to be the left-wing candidate best placed in the polls (between 11 and 13% ).

"This systematic call for useful voting, to vote with a gun to the head, fed up. The French want to vote for their convictions," said Mr. Brossat.

Asked moreover about the remarks of Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the JDD considering, at the address of Fabien Roussel, that "it is not a question of doing figuration for the glory of a party", Ian Brossat y saw "a lot of contempt" and "arrogance", which are "unwelcome in a period when, on the contrary, we need respect".

As for the investigation by the National Financial Prosecutor's Office (PNF) targeting Fabien Roussel for "embezzlement of public funds", "we are very confident and very serene" about his innocence, assured Mr. Brossat, stressing that if the candidate "is summoned, he will go like any other citizen".

"We do not say + The Republic is me +, we respect the institutions", he said, in reference to the sentence dropped by Jean-Luc Mélenchon during a search at the headquarters of LFI in 2018.
