Invasion of Ukraine Russia asks China for weapons to support its invasion of Ukraine
The British government has warned Russia
that putting the "toe"
in any NATO country will be considered "an act of war".
The direct threat was launched by the Secretary of Health Sajid Javid, hours before the
summit of the Baltic and Nordic countries
convened by the "premier" Boris Johnson and in parallel to one of the largest
military maneuvers of the Alliance in Norway
: the so called "Cold Response", in which 30,000 soldiers from 27 countries participate.
"We have made it very clear to the Russians
even before
this conflict started," Sajid Javid said on Monday, after the bombing of the Ukrainian base in Yavoriv, which caused 35 deaths 25 kilometers from the border with Poland.
"Even
a simple Russian attack on
NATO territory will be considered an act of war," the British minister warned.
Javid later clarified that it is
"very unlikely" that Russia will attack
a NATO country, but his words served as an advance to the
summit of the countries of northern Europe
, in which Boris Johnson himself is expected to raise the tone of the threats against Moscow, as occurred in the face of the possible use of chemical weapons in the war in Ukraine.
A week after the conclave of the Visegrad group (Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic) Johnson decided to go a step further in his attempt to turn London into the diplomatic crossroads of the West, with the meeting of the
leaders of 10 states of the Northern Europe
, united in the so-called Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF).
Created in 2021, the JEF incorporates not only
eight NATO countries
, but also Finland and Sweden, which do not belong to the Alliance.
Along with the United Kingdom, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark and Iceland, the group also includes the three Baltic countries:
Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania
.
"European security has been shaken by Russia's attack on Ukraine and, together with our partners, we will take steps to ensure that
we come out stronger and more united than before
," Johnson said ahead of Tuesday's summit, preceded by a dinner. leaders at the Checkers residence and
bilateral meetings throughout Monday
.
"Guaranteeing our resistance to Putin's threats is something that has to go
beyond the strictly military
," stressed the "premier."
"Together with our partners in the North Sea and the Baltic, we must ensure that we are safe from Russian interference in our energy supplies, our economy and our values."
The United Kingdom has precisely coordinated the "Cold Response" military exercises that will take place this week in temperatures of up to twenty degrees below zero in the Baltic Sea.
The JEF's maneuvers have been justified to defend
"freedom of movement"
in the border space and in the airspace adjacent to Russia.
According to a Downing Street statement, the London meeting will address "
increasing defensive military support for Ukraine,
increased resilience against threats from hostile states, and long-term energy security."
The member countries of the JEF will also deal for the first time with a reconstruction plan for Ukraine after the war.
