The food and beverages that have increased the most in price in the last twelve months, according to Statistics Sweden's Consumer Price Index (CPI):

Coffee

In the last twelve months, the price of non-alcoholic beverages has risen by 7.2 percent.

Above all, the coffee price has risen, by 29.5 percent.

- It is a lagging effect due to weeds and frosty nights in the Bralisen.

On top of that, it has, from Swedish conditions, some effects: It is the Swedish krona and very large costs for transport, says Carl Eckerdal, chief economist at Livsmedelsföretagen.

He notes that coffee beans have become more than twice as expensive for producers, and warns that the price increase will probably continue.

- Unfortunately, we have probably not seen the end of inflation when it comes to coffee.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes have also become significantly more expensive.

- We can see that tomatoes have become 29.4 percent more expensive this year, says John Eliasson, statistician at Statistics Sweden.

According to Carl Eckerdal, the price increase should mainly be related to the increase in electricity prices and energy costs.

- A large part of the tomatoes sold in Sweden this season are grown in greenhouses that are heated on a diet road.

The fact that electricity costs on the entire continent have skyrocketed during the fourth quarter therefore gives a quick impression in tomato prices.

In addition, tomatoes and the type of fresh produce sold in fruit and vegetable counters are imported with short lead times, Eckerdal points out.

- It is not possible to put a large stock of fresh tomatoes on the shelf.

Pear and orange

Pears and oranges have become 25 and 17 percent more expensive in one year.

- It is probably a question of supply and demand in the global market, and on top of that a currency effect, says Eckerdal.

Cabbage

Anyone who wants to use cabbage in the gratin or soup must be prepared to pay more than before.

Statistics Sweden's figures for individual products show that cabbage is 24.7 per cent more expensive today compared with last year.

- Probably it also has to do with supply and demand, says John Eliasson, statistician at Statistics Sweden.

Fresh salmon

Statistics Sweden's figures for individual products show that the price of fresh salmon has risen by 21.2 per cent.

- It is a big increase, says Statistics Sweden's John Eliasson.

More expensive farming and transport of salmon to Sweden has contributed to a large extent, according to Carl Eckerdal.

- Then you have the crown effect on it.

Other fish, beef, poultry and lamb have also become more expensive on average, while pork has only risen by half a percent in one year.

- The challenge of meat animals, pigs, chickens, chickens and fish has become very much more expensive.

These are largely the same types of ingredients, says Eckerdal.

Honeydew melon

Honeydew melon has become 20.6 percent more expensive in one year.

Salad bowl

Salad bowl has also become more expensive than last year.

The price of cabbage has risen by 15.3 percent.

Frozen fruits and berries

Anyone looking for fruit and berries in the freezer counter must be prepared for a higher price tag.

According to Statistics Sweden's figures, these goods have become 13.5 per cent more expensive.

At the same time, sweets and ice cream have only become 1.6 percent more expensive.

Grain bread

Wholemeal bread has become 12.1 percent more expensive in one year.

It is thus the product that has risen the most in price in the category "bread and other cereal products", according to John Eliasson.

- During the autumn, many producers have talked about the prices for grain going up and now it has become so, he says.

Wholemeal bread is included in the same group as, among other things, pasta and rice, whose prices have increased by 8.52 percent and 5.61 percent, respectively.

Even the most important ingredient, flour, has become more expensive, 11.55 percent.

We saw before the war in Ukraine that the price of wheat and other cereals increased in price on the world market.

We have a supply that does not really saturate demand and a transport breakdown that makes the costs stand out.

It has hung in since the pandemic, says Carl Eckerdal.

However, the increased price of grain ingredients is not the only explanation for the increased price of bread, the chief economist continues.

- It also has to do with electricity prices.

Baking bread involves quite large electricity costs for the ovens and all the mechanical equipment.

Food and beverages that have fallen in price in the last twelve months, according to Statistics Sweden's Consumer Price Index (CPI):

Pujolök

Leeks are the food whose price has fallen the most in the past year.

It has become 45.0 percent cheaper in the last year.

-

Leeks cost almost half as much as a year ago, says John Eliasson at Statistics Sweden.

Chief economist Carl Eckerdal states that the price situation in the fruit and vegetable category often varies.

- Fruit and vegetables move very strongly up and very strongly down between the months.

Leeks were the product that decreased the most also in January.

For some reason, there must be a surplus that you need to get rid of and then you lower the prices, he says.

Avocado

Avocado prices have fallen by 21.3 percent.

- Avocado is a product that varies a lot from month to month.

One month there can be a lot of promotions, while another month there are no promotions at all.

Here you have to check for a long time how it develops, considering that the price jumps so much, says John Eliasson.

Beer, 0-2.7

Beer that contains between 0-2.7 percent alcohol costs 4.0 percent less compared to last year.

Carl Eckerdal describes the result as "very surprising".

Mainly because it does not reflect the cost increases that the breweries have encountered.

- The breweries are facing huge cost increases for malt and barley that are included to produce beer.

This also applies to aluminum used for beer cans.

According to him, the falling price is not lasting.

- There is an inertia in the system and in business relations.

It will not last, but it will rather be like a ketchup effect.

Now we see no price increases at all, but then when it comes, it will kick in with full force.

Soft drinks, other alcohol and tobacco, on the other hand, are relatively still in price.

Apples

Anyone who wants to top the pie or porridge with apples will get away cheaper than before.

Price changes for various goods show that apples are now 3.8 percent cheaper.

Cauliflower and yellow onion

Cauliflower and oranges have become 3.8 percent and 3.2 percent cheaper in one year, respectively.

Jam and marmalade

The price of jam and marmalade has fallen by 2.9 per cent compared with previous years.

The development differs from many other products with sugar in them, which have rather risen in price.

- All major groups, such as meat, fish, milk, oils, coffee fruits, vegetables sweets, have a price increase.

Then there are individual products that are cheaper, says Carl Eckerdal.

Lemons

Anyone who can imagine lemon before orange can save a penny.

In one year, the orange has become 17 percent more expensive, while the lemon costs 1.7 percent less today than a year ago.

Nuts and dried fruit

Nuts and dried fruit have also fallen in price.

The product is 1.7 percent cheaper than twelve months ago.

Other sandwich fat

In the last year, it has also become cheaper to spread the breakfast sandwich.

According to Statistics Sweden's way of measuring, sandwich fat has become 1.4 per cent cheaper.
