A poisoning attempt took place in the animal shelter of Épernay (Marne) at the beginning of last week, reports France 3 Grand-Est.

A wheat grain sausage containing rat poison and bugs was placed on a fence.

A 4-year-old malinois ate a small portion.

Increased monitoring

Fortunately, a caretaker noticed it quickly and the dog was able to be medically monitored.

He is now out of danger.

For its part, the Marne Independent Association for Animal Assistance (Aimaa), which manages the shelter, condemned this act in a publication posted on Thursday March 10 on Facebook.

The association also took the opportunity to alert the neighborhood, many dogs walking in the shelter area.

The town hall and the municipal police have also been notified.

Rounds are now organized and shelter volunteers have increased their surveillance.

A complaint should be filed with the national police on Wednesday March 16, in the hope of finding the author of this poisoning attempt.
