The Berango City Council

has opened a

sanctioning file

against the

Kultural Kandaru Euskal Kuntura

association , the group that made the

reservation of the municipal pediment

where last Sunday an

'ongi etorri' was held for former prisoner Ibai Aginaga

.

Kultural Kandaru Euskal Kultura has among its objectives the

"promotion of Basque use" and "of Basque folklore and culture"

.

This association carried out the first reservation of public space more than two months ago to presumably organize

an act of 'bertsolaris' (improvised verses in Basque) with popular food

.

In the extensive note released by

Mayor Anabel Landa

No political reference of condemnation or rejection of this act of exaltation of the ETA member is included.

Radical groups had announced last week the celebration in Berango of a tribute to ETA member Ibai Aginaga who was released from Basauri prison after fully serving a

21-year prison sentence for being part of an ETA commando

.

The 'ongi etorri' was held in the municipal fronton of this municipality governed by the PNV, which today released a statement revealing that it was a cultural association in the region that was in charge of making the reservation for the fronton.

The note prepared by the government team and uploaded to social networks by the mayor Anabel Landa blames Kandaru Euskal Kultura for the act of homage to Aginaga.

The pediment was decorated with

banners in support of ETA both outside the facilities and in the sports complex

.

In addition, the two hundred followers acclaimed one of the ETA members who he rejects and has not shown any sign of repentance during his stay in prison.

Rockets, shouts of encouragement, applause and aurresku of honor

completed the tribute to the former prisoner in a sports facility.

According to the data held by the Berango Town Hall, the association in defense of Euskera and Basque culture -as stated in its statutes- made a

first request to have the pediment more than two months ago

but it was rejected due to the restrictions imposed by the Government Basque.

After removing these limitations, the City Council facilitated the reservation of the premises.

The City Council notes that the municipal regulation expressly establishes that

the use of these spaces for political acts is not allowed

when the reservation has been made for cultural purposes.

The government team chaired by Landa justifies the cession of the pediment because

it could not deny it due to "subjective assumptions, convictions or hypotheses"

.

However, the Consistory acknowledges that on the 8th it found that there were banners in the town summoning an 'ongi etorri' without it being clear where and at what time on Sunday, March 13, it was going to take place.

The version of the Biscayan City Council is that Mayor Landa

informed the Ertzaintza of

this anonymous call last Tuesday, March 8, although a specific place for its celebration was not established.

In addition, it justifies that it did not annul the reservation of the fronton with the argument that

Dignity and Justice had demanded that the National Court ban the act

but the judges issued an order two days before the tribute ruling out its judicial suspension.
