Today, there are four suppliers of electric scooters in Linköping and the number of them is just over a thousand.

The municipality has received inquiries from more companies, but then that figure can go away, says municipal councilor Muharrem Demirok (C).

- We believe that the roof for a municipality like Linköping goes at 900 to 1000 electric scooters.

We believe that it can be too much with more people establishing themselves.

Last year, increased land lease fees were introduced, which means that companies pay approximately SEK 1,500 per year for each individual electric scooter that they want to exhibit on public site land.

After last summer, the municipality also began to remove scooters parked in unauthorized places.

The companies can then collect them for a basic fee of SEK 1,500 per bicycle.

- What we are now seeing after the measures that have been taken is that interest has cooled quite markedly.

It is a market that is saturated right now and we are finding a solution with the existing companies, says Muharrem Demirok (C).
