Abu Dhabi Police launched the fifth edition of the awareness campaign "Be careful", to enhance society's awareness of emerging forms of cybercrime, such as telephone fraud, extortion, and others.

The Director of Criminal Investigations and Investigations in the Criminal Security Sector, Brigadier Rashid Khalaf Al Dhaheri, stressed in the press conference, yesterday, the importance of the campaign in increasing public awareness, and increasing the awareness segment to include all nationalities and speakers of Arabic and other languages, with the aim of informing them of the procedures required to protect them from telephone and electronic fraud.

He stressed not to deal with strange numbers, to maintain the confidentiality of personal financial information, to inform the security services as soon as a suspicious phone call is received, to take precautions in dealing with phone calls and messages, and to verify their source.

He pointed out the Abu Dhabi Police's keenness to clamp down on fraudsters, arrest them and confront their renewed criminal methods with advanced security precautions, pointing to the importance of concerted police efforts with banks, media and social media platforms, to address electronic crimes, regardless of their forms, types and methods of committing them, stressing the success of the Tawasul Center in the Directorate Investigations and criminal investigations in tracking and freezing funds, and taking legal measures that ensure the preservation of funds and their return to the victims.

The Director of the Community Police Department, Brigadier General Dr. Hammoud Saeed Al-Afari, said that the law criminalized electronic fraud, and established strict laws that protect citizens and residents, pointing out that there are various forms of electronic fraud, most notably bogus prizes, and attempts to persuade victims to donate for humanitarian causes, urging not to Response to phishing calls and messages, and quick reporting.
