"Glide" identifies 4 infectious diseases to be eliminated globally

A mass communication specialist at the Global Institute for the Elimination of Infectious Diseases (GLIDE), Hajar Al Hosani, confirmed to "Emirates Today" that "Glide" contributes to eliminating four infectious diseases, including polio, malaria, lymphatic filariasis, in addition to river blindness. She pointed out that "the institute's strategic plan for the next three years is based on raising awareness and participation, advancing strategies to eradicate diseases, and promoting and expanding innovation."

Al Hosani added that GLIDE, a new global health institute based in Abu Dhabi, is helping to build regional capabilities and expertise in eliminating infectious diseases.

Its unique location also contributes to ensuring the continuity and expansion of charitable work in the country, and supporting the realization of the vision of a world free from infectious diseases of poverty and its prevention.

Al-Hosani stressed that the Institute’s mission focuses on advancing global thinking, accelerating progress towards eliminating infectious diseases by relying on national strategies and local solutions, encouraging an integrated approach, stimulating the search for sustainable solutions and working with partners, pointing out that the Institute works with its partners. To accelerate the advancement of the goals of eliminating infectious diseases, to contribute to the realization of a world free from infectious diseases of poverty, and to eventually eradicate them.

Al-Hosani pointed out that Glide is not looking to create new health systems, but rather strengthens existing systems to be more appropriate to serve local communities, as some of the basic aspects of its work strategy focus on benefiting from national strategies and solutions, and local capabilities, knowledge and leadership, to enhance lessons learned between countries, And take a comprehensive perspective to help them exchange experiences among themselves and use them to accelerate the eradication of infectious diseases, in addition to promoting the integrated and health systems approach.

Al-Hosani pointed out that the institute is not working on finding "quick solutions", but rather seeks to achieve results based on the progress made in the past and can be sustainable in the long term, and to determine how to address existing and new health challenges.

It also seeks to strategically invest, seize opportunities, and fill the gaps in endemic communities, to accelerate progress towards eliminating infectious diseases.
