The share of rechargeable cars amounted to close to 52 percent in February, 25.6 percent of the total registrations were electric cars and 26 percent charging hybrids, figures from the industry organization Bil Sweden show.

Car dealers in Jönköping County notice this, and customers seem to be increasingly asking questions about consumption now that petrol and diesel prices have escalated to a historically high level.

- Well, there are many who have consumption in focus when they look at a new car, says Robert Bloom who is CEO of Nybergs bil with headquarters in Jönköping.

Increased by almost 288 percent

Electric cars continue to show a strong growth rate and increased by 288 percent compared with the same month last year.

The sharp increase in rechargeable vehicles in recent months has primarily taken place among private customers, among other things driven by launches of new models in various price segments.

Delivery problems

Although more and more people want an electric car, February has been a weak month for the vehicle market, with a decline of just over seven percent compared with February last year.

And the industry is still suffering from supply problems due to a lack of semiconductors.

- It can be closer to a year of waiting for a model, says Robert Bloom who says that he thinks they could have sold more cars if it was faster deliveries.

The invasion of Ukraine also risks affecting both industry and the market, according to Bil Sweden.

- The automotive industry is dependent on free trade and all disruptions to supply chains or markets are negative.

The impact on the Swedish market comes mainly from the economic sanctions that affect both the economic situation and energy prices, says Mattias Bergman, CEO of Bil Sweden, in a press release.
