Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, is visiting the Russian capital, Moscow, as part of diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, discuss de-escalation and ensure the safety of civilians.

Ministry spokesman Majid bin Muhammad Al-Ansari said that the Qatari foreign minister will meet tomorrow, Monday, with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, according to what was reported by the official Qatar News Agency (QNA).

Al-Ansari added that "this visit comes at a critical stage, given the conditions the world is experiencing as a result of the escalation in Ukraine."

He explained that it "includes a discussion of the latest developments in the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and a discussion of the ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve this crisis."

Al-Ansari stated that "Qatar is seeking to support the existing international efforts to provide the necessary conditions for a peaceful solution to the crisis."

He stated that the Qatari foreign minister "will emphasize during his talks with the Russian side that a peaceful solution is the only way to end this crisis, and that he will stress the need for concerted efforts to resolve it urgently in accordance with the United Nations Charter and the principles of international law."

Avoid escalation

For its part, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani discussed with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba the latest developments in the crisis between Russia and Ukraine.

The ministry said that the Qatari minister called on all parties to exercise restraint and resolve the dispute through dialogue and diplomacy, and stressed the need to avoid escalation and ensure the safety of civilians.

In the same context, the US State Department reported that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed, in a call yesterday, Saturday, with the Qatari Foreign Minister, "the unjustified Russian war on Ukraine."
