In the past week, fighting in Ukarina has intensified and many experts estimate that Russia's invasion of Ukraine may take longer than Russia predicted.

The fighting has also forced more and more Ukrainians to leave the country.

According to the UN, 2.5 million Ukrainians have fled across the border and to other countries, where the majority of the refugees, about half, are now in neighboring Poland.

Sweden's municipalities are preparing

On Friday, the Swedish Migration Agency announced that more than 4,000 Ukrainians come to Sweden every day.

This has meant that the Swedish Migration Agency has made an inquiry to all county administrative boards to evaluate how many places the municipalities can arrange in the event of a possible refugee reception, in Norrbotten County that number is 1,000.

- These are places that already exist now and places that can be created over a slightly longer period of time, says Evelina Harr, regional refugee coordinator at the County Administrative Board in Norrbotten.

It is unclear where the places are

The County Administrative Board does not want to go into what the distribution looks like between the various municipalities in the county at present and the authority has chosen to cover the information with secrecy.
