The death of an elderly Arab in Fujairah

An Arab, aged 73, was run over by a taxi driven by a young man of another Arab nationality near the Al-Dalla roundabout towards Al-Nakhil Street in the Emirate of Fujairah.

The Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at the General Command of Fujairah Police, Colonel Saleh Muhammad Abdullah Al-Dhanhani, told "Emirates Today" that the deceased was about to cross near the Al-Dalla roundabout, but he was surprised by the speeding vehicle that ran over him and died of his injuries.

He pointed out that a report was received, at exactly eight thirty in the evening, stating that a run-over accident occurred near the Al-Dallah roundabout, as a result of which an Arab person was seriously injured, so the traffic patrols moved to the scene of the accident.

Al-Dhanhani stressed that pedestrians have the right to cross the road safely, as excessive speed,


preoccupation with other than the road, lack of attention, and crossing from places not designated for pedestrian crossing, are among the most important causes of run-over accidents, pointing out the need to take into account children and the elderly when crossing the road, and that the safety of pedestrians On the road is a joint responsibility between road users and pedestrians, and road users have a great role in achieving safety through caution and attention and giving priority to pedestrians to cross safely and securely.
